Description
This is my first entry for the "Clarisse's Finest Hours" competition. Fine, maybe it's not her finest hour, and it's only implied in the book, but I liked the idea of a quieter, brooding Clarisse. Although her spear Maimer is ever-present.
Basically, this is Clarisse after her secret mission in "The Titan's Curse". That explains why her hair is still short. I'd say it's near the summer, so she's not wearing her jacket, and she's checking up on Chris, who is still mad and helpless. Chiron's in there, so she's been chased out, but she's still lingering outside the door.
I guess, after the successful missions and the celebrations, there's only this quiet waiting left for Clarisse. This is her reality, after the laurels and the congratulations wear off. But she's strong enough to endure the agonizing wait. And that's what she does. Wait.

I really like this! I can't understand why nobody commented yet!
First of all, I love the posture. It really compliments the whole brooding atmosphere, and really accentuates her facial expression. I love her expression- she looks really 'far away', as if she was thinking about loads of things at the the same time and not really trying to pay attention to what is happening now. That's what I really like about it- the fact that she looks as if she was trying not to think about Chris being insane, and I like it because I know that if I was Clarisse I'd be trying to think about everything but Chris. I just can really empathise with her.
Another thing I really like is that the colours are mostly dark, except for the light coming from the Infirmary. It makes it all look spooky and sad.
The ripped off ends of the shirt make you really believe that that is Clarisse and not some Demeter kid. I say that because it's Ares' children that are more likely to rip their clothes, whether it be on a quest or just in the arena, whereas Demeter's kids would have soil stains and Athena's kids' clothes might be pristine clean. You just really made the shirt personal to Clarisse, and it just makes me believe that you really spent lots of time not only drawing but also planning this picture.
The last thing I'd like to say is that I love the detail of Clarisse's hair. I can see that you used a thin brush to do it, and I find it just so impressive because using a thin brush must've took you a long, long time!
To finish this off, I just really want to say that you did a great job. This is probably the only picture I saw that had to do with Chris being insane (even though he's not in the picture, it still was inspired by Chris being mad, and Clarisse's feelings for him), and the fact that there are not many pictures about Chris being insane shocks me because that event was actually a very big thing for Clarisse. It's such a shame there aren't many pictures like yours that actually show Clarisse's more vulnerable and humane side (even though she doesn't look very vulnerable, it still makes me think that she must've been upset, and when people are upset they seem to be more vulnerable than ever).
